Woodland Named AUS MVP

(FREDERICTON, NB) Kendra Woodland has become the first member of the UNB REDS women’s hockey team to ever win the Atlantic University Sport Most Valuable Player award.

Woodland was named among the Atlantic conference’s major award winners Tuesday.

Woodland had an impressive 2022-23 season, compiling a 14-3 record and recording a 1.10 goals against average and a .960 save percentage, the best save percentage in U SPORTS.

“Kendra has been impressive all year for us and it’s fantastic to see her recognized for her hard work,” said REDS’ head coach Sarah Hilworth. “Kendra looks at winning every day and comes to the rink with the mentality of getting better every day.”

Woodland helped lead the REDS to a 23-2-1-2 (W-L-OTL-SOL) record and first place in the AUS.

UNB’s 34 goals allowed were tied for fewest in U SPORTS, with the University of Toronto.

“Kendra is focused and has helped lead all our outstanding goalies on our team to incredible numbers this season,” said Hilworth. “She is a warrior, and we’re very proud of her.”

Woodland and REDS’ defender Jenna MacLean were named AUS 1st Team All-Stars.
