(FREDERICTON, NB) The Atlantic University Sport-leading UNB REDS women’s hockey team is adding forward Rylee Strohm to their recruiting class of 2023.

The 17-year-old, from Kingsville, Ontario, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2023-24 AUS season.

“We’re thrilled to add Rylee to our roster, starting next season,” said REDS head coach Sarah Hilworth. “She’s a strong player who has a fiercely competitive mentality. We know she’ll come here and help us find success.”

Strohm is in her Grade 12 year at Appleby College, in Oakville, Ontario.

A member of the school’s women’s varsity team, which competes in the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association, Strohm has scored three goals in Appleby’s first two games of the 2022-23 season. She also skates with the Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins, of Ontario’s Provincial Women’s Hockey League.

“I chose UNB because of its amazing reputation, on and off the ice,” said Strohm. “When visiting, the culture and family-feel of the team was evident. I was impressed with the facilities and how much Coach Hilworth and the girls have already been able to accomplish.”

Strohm, who’s been invited to Team Ontario’s U18 high performance camp, has been playing at the U18 level since she was 14.

“She’s a player who looks to get better every day,” said Coach Hilworth. “We know we have the right environment for her here at UNB, one that will allow her to find success as a student-athlete.”

“I’m looking forward to joining the team next season and working to bring a national championship to Fredericton,” said Strohm.

Strohm will enter UNB’s Faculty of Arts and study Criminology. She plans on attending law school for post-graduate studies.
