(FREDERICTON, NB) The defending Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey champion UNB REDS are adding veteran defender Raine Murdoch for the 2023-2024 season and beyond.

The 19-year-old, from Sherwood Park, AB, spent the 2022-2023 season at Union College, of the NCAA.

“We’re thrilled to add Raine to our roster,” said REDS’ head coach Sarah Hilworth. “Her passion and work ethic will complement our defence, and we know she’ll have an immediate impact with our team.”

The 5’9” Murdoch appeared in all 27 games with the Dutchwomen, who went 10-16-1 during their ECAC regular season.

“As a transfer player, joining a program with a reputable culture and emphasis on team values was extremely important to me,” said Murdoch. “The REDS have the strongest, most inclusive culture, grounded in respect through all of U SPORTS, and have always shown such in the way they prepare and perform.”

Before attending Union College, Murdoch was a standout defender with the Edmonton Pandas U18 AAA team that captured the 2021-2022 Alberta Female Hockey League championship, earning the club’s Player’s Choice and Top Defensive Player awards.

She also spent time in the Sherwood Park Fury and Sherwood Park Royals organizations.

“I’m extremely excited for this opportunity,” said Murdoch. “Coach Hilworth and her staff have built one of the most competitive programs in the country in a short period of time.”

“Raine’s excitement is contagious and we’re anxious to see how she impacts our REDS community,” said Hilworth.

Murdoch will study Psychology while attending UNB.
