(FREDERICTON, NB) The defending Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey champion UNB REDS are adding goaltender Sierra Eagles to their recruiting class of 2023.
The 19-year-old Eagles, from Tumbler Ridge, BC, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2023-2024 AUS season.
“We’re excited to add Sierra and know she’ll be a great fit with our team,” said REDS head coach Sarah Hilworth. “Sierra is an athletic goaltender who competes to make every stop. I believe she’ll fit nicely with our goalie group and our team.”
Eagles, who attended Prince George Secondary and Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, graduated last June, taking a gap year to join the Vancouver-based Pacific Steelers, of the Junior Women’s Hockey League.
She earned JWHL all-star status with the Steelers, participating in the league’s all-star game this past February.
Prior to joining the Steelers, Eagles was a member of the Northern Capitals of the BC Female AAA Hockey League, leading the Caps U18 team with a 12-3 record and 2.31 goals against average in 2021-2022.
“I’ve chosen UNB because of its diverse culture, academics, and never-ending dedication to working and playing hard,” said Eagles. “I’m grateful and excited for the opportunity to play for the REDS.”
Eagles will study Business while attending UNB.
