REDS Advance To AUS Semi-Final
(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB REDS women's curling team will play in Sunday's semi-final at the 2025 Atlantic University Sport Championships, in Halifax.
After their third straight win in Saturday morning's draw, a 7-6 triumph over STFX, the REDS dropped their final round robin game, Saturday afternoon, 6-5 to the Dalhousie Tigers. It was UNB's first loss of the championship bonspiel.
"I'm really proud of the team," said REDS' third Carly Smith. "We've been playing well this weekend, and we'll keep the energy high tomorrow."
In an even afternoon match, UNB scored two in the seventh end to tie the score 5-5. Dal scored a single in the eighth and final end for the win.
UNB, Dal, and STFX all finished 3-and-1, with the X-Women earning a bye to Sunday's final.
The REDS, the defending AUS champs, and Tigers will meet again in Sunday's semi-final, scheduled for 9:00am. The winner advances to the gold medal game.
"It feels amazing to be in the playoffs in my final year as a RED," said Smith. "We'll do everything in our power to bring back another AUS title."
"Tomorrow we're going to focus on executing the little things and getting a bit extra out of every shot. If we play well tomorrow, like we did today, I like our chances."
