Champs Begin Defence With Big W
(HALIFAX, NS) The defending Atlantic University Sport champion UNB REDS opened the 2025 conference championship tournament with a dominant 12-1 win, in just six ends, over the Saint Mary's Huskies.
The REDS opened strong, building a 5-0 lead through two ends before scoring two in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two more in the sixth.
The Huskies conceded after the sixth.
"I'm pleased with the performance from the team today," said REDS interim head coach Lorna Campbell. "We decided to take a conservative approach for first few ends to get a good read of the ice and build some confidence."
Campbell says the team executed their strategy well.
After one draw, UNB is one of two teams at 1-and-0.
They'll face the Mount Allison Mounties in Friday's 2:00pm draw.
On Thursday, the Mounties built a 4-0 lead on the STFX X-Women, only to give up ten unanswered points in a 10-4 loss.
"It was a good start," said Campbell. "We'll aim to take the momentum into tomorrow's (Friday's" game."
