REDS Open '25 Recruiting With SG Logan
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s basketball team is naming shooting guard Olivia Logan as the first member of their recruiting class of 2025.
The 5’11” Logan, from Mahone Bay, NS, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport season.
“Olivia is a three-level scorer and has proven to be one of the top recruits in the 2025 class,” said REDS’ head coach Erin McAleenan. “We’re excited to have her joining our REDS family.” “When Olivia was here for her official visit, it was obvious right away that she fit in with our team culture,” added McAleenan. “Her work ethic and competitiveness are exactly what we look for, so we can’t wait for her to be on campus next fall.”
The 17-year-old is finishing her Grade 12 year at Halifax West High School where she’s helped the school win two city league titles and a pair of silver medals at provincial championship tournaments. In 2023-24, Logan was the MVP of Halifax’s city league.
“I had an immediate connection with Coach McAleenan,” said Logan. “After meeting the rest of the coaching staff and the players, I felt very connected to all of them.”
“I was blown away by the amazing facilities,” Logan added. “I love that there is a second gym for athletes to have better access to train. The strength and conditioning program and their rehabilitation support for athletes are both top of the line, which was very important to me. The classroom sizes are still small enough to be known by your professors which was important to me. UNB has a lot of great options for academic programs and offered the one that most interested me which was the final factor in my decision to attend UNB.”
Logan’s impressive basketball resume includes three consecutive appearances with Team Nova Scotia at national championship tournaments. In 2022, she helped Nova Scotia’s U15 team to a silver medal and in 2024, with the province’s U17 team, she averaged 13.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game at the national championship tournament.
“I have a strong work ethic and a high compete level that I will bring to the team,” said Logan. “I try to be a leader on and off the court. I’m a scorer from all three levels of the court and can confidently play all positions.”
In 2024, with the HaliBlaze girls club team, Logan helped capture gold medals at a Maine-Canada AAU challenge tournament, the Montreal SLAM tournament and Summerfest NB tournament, and a silver medal at the Queen of Boston AAU tournament.
“Olivia has been a member of one of the best high school teams in Nova Scotia, Halifax West, as well as one of the top travel teams,” said Coach McAleenan. “Her experience in knowing not just how to win, but what it takes to win consistently, and still striving to get better every day, will serve her very well as she joins the REDS program.”
Logan will pursue a Bachelor of Recreation and Sport Studies while attending UNB.
