MacIntyre Joining REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s basketball team is adding veteran forward Clancy MacIntyre, of Saint John, to their recruiting class of 2025.
She’s signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport season.
“We’re really excited that Clancy has chosen to come home. She’ll be a great addition to our front court,” said REDS’ head coach Erin McAleenan. “Clancy’s length and athleticism will be a great asset and will add much needed depth at the forward position for us next season.”
The 6’1” MacIntyre was the New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Southwest Player of the Year in 2024 and helped the St. Malachy’s Memorial High School Saints to the Division 1 provincial championship. The previous season, the Saints were runners-up at the provincial championship.
“UNB feels like home,” said MacIntyre. “UNB offers a great balance between academics and athletics. The university’s reputation for quality education and its support for student-athletes in managing both schoolwork and training is something I value.”
“The girls and coaches are so supportive,” she added. “I felt an instant connection on my visit. I cannot wait to be part of this wonderful team and the REDS family.”
Now 18, MacIntyre was named a NBIAA All-Star in 2023 and 2024 as well as MVP of the Saints varsity girls’ team both years.
MacIntyre is a former member of Basketball NB teams at various age levels and in July of 2023, she played in a number of NBA Academy games.
“As an athlete, I’ll bring strong work ethic,” she said. “I’m dedicated and consistently put in the effort, during practices and games.”
“Clancy is a top New Brunswick talent,” said Coach McAleenan. “She has a nose for the ball and can score in different ways. We’re looking forward to seeing her in a REDS uniform.”
MacIntyre says her short-term goal is to add to her individual skills. Long-term, she wants to help UNB win an AUS championship.
MacIntyre will study Kinesiology while attending UNB.
