REDS Name Olscamp First Recruit Of '24
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s basketball team is naming 6’0” wing Zoe Olscamp as the first member of their recruiting class of 2024.
The 17-year-old, from Stratford, PE, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2024-2025 Atlantic University Sport season.
“I’m excited to be part of the REDS because of the top-notch coaching staff and players that have created an environment that is welcoming and emphasizes hard work,” said Olscamp. “I know they’ll be dedicated to helping me become the best player I can be.”
Completing her Grade 12 year at Charlottetown Rural High School, Olscamp has been part of back-to-back provincial championship teams, captaining the Raiders in 2022-23 earning all-star status along the way.
“We’re really excited for Zoe to be joining our REDS family,” said REDS’ head coach Erin McAleenan. “Her work ethic and attitude fit in well with the culture we’re building. Zoe is the most skilled athlete in her age group in PEI, and she had an instant connection with our current group of student-athletes.”
A member of Prince Edward Island’s U15 team, she competed at the 2019 national championship tournament and was a member of the province’s team at the 2022 Canada Summer Games.
“I look forward to contributing to the team with my versatility,” said Olscamp. “I can contribute from inside and from the perimeter on offence and I’m a strong presence on the defensive end.”
“Zoe is long and athletic and will fit well into our systems at both ends of the floor,” said Coach McAleenan. “We’re thrilled about our first committed recruit for 2024.”
Olscamp wants to earn a position where she can contribute and hopes to help UNB win multiple conference championships.
She’ll pursue a degree in Recreation and Sport Studies.
