(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB REDS completed a weekend sweep of the Dalhousie Tigers with an 88-52 win, in Halifax, on Saturday.

Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, NS) led the REDS with an 18-point night on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Katie Butts (Ottawa, ON) added 17 and some strong defence to earn Subway Player of the Game honours.

"I was really impressed with our effort on the defensive end," said REDS' head coach Jeff Speedy. "We executed our game plan and made it difficult for them to get the shots they wanted."

The REDS got off to a hot start, opening the first quarter with a 10-2 run before the Tigers could cut the lead to just one point at 10-9.

The REDS would go on a late run, capped by an impressive bucket and drawn foul by Veinot, making it 26-1 and UNB led 27-17 after 10 minutes.

The game would follow a similar pace in the next quarter as the REDS grew their lead, pushing it to 48-26 nearing half-time.

In the third, the REDS maintained control, 67-35 with two minutes to play.

UNB continued to rack up the points and extend their lead as Kylee Speedy (Fredericton, NB) hit a three-point shot to push the game to 72-39 as the third quarter ended.

Dalhousie's Jasenda Horsman (Truro, NS) started the final quarter with a nice drive to the bucket as the Tigers continued to push despite the REDS' big lead.

UNB's Ellen Hatt (Fall River, NS) would seal it for the REDS with a free break extending the lead to 84-44 as the game essentially came to a close.

Jolianne Guay (Prevost, QC) grabbed eight rebounds, while Speedy came off the REDS bench to score 11. Erin Ingalls (St. George, NB) chipped in with six points and five rebounds off the bench.

Kelsey Crocker (St. John's, NL) led the Tigers with 18 points, while Katie Crombeen (Calgary, AB) added 10.

Dal's five starters scored just 15 points combined.

"We had an advantage in the post and did a great exploiting that," said Coach Speedy. "It led to a very balanced scoring attack."

With the win, the REDS are now 9-5 and sit second in the Atlantic University Sport standings, just two back of league-leading Acadia.

The Tigers are 1-14.

UNB goes on the road Thursday to take on UPEI in a game originally schedule for January 13th and postponed that day due to weather. Game time is 6:00pm.

Dal visits Acadia on Friday.
