Reds Outpace Huskies

(HALIFAX, NS) Krystal Osburn (Nottawa, ON) scored 16 points to lead the UNB Reds in their 62-50 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies, in a four-point game, on Saturday.

Osburn was named the Subway Player of the Game.

Both teams struggled to start the opening quarter, as the game was tied 4-4 halfway through the frame.

UNB led 18-12 after 10 minutes, and the Reds extended their lead in the second quarter, out-scoring the Huskies 22-15 to take a 40-27 lead at the half.

The third quarter saw UNB outpace SMU 17-12, for a 57-38 lead after 30 minutes.

The Huskies controlled the final frame, outscoring UNB 11-6, but the Reds held on for the 62-50 win.

Mikaela Dodig (Bolton, ON) had 13 points, while Grace Simpson (Fredericton, NB) notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Reds led the Huskies in several statistical categories, including rebounds (43-37), points in the paint (16-8), points off turnovers (20-16), second-chance points (8-3) and bench points (14-5).

With the win, the fifth straight for the Reds, UNB is now 7-and-5, and tied for third in the Atlantic University Sport standings.

The Reds return to the road on Friday, visiting Acadia for a 6:00pm start.

The Huskies, now 5-and-6 and 4th in the AUS, return to action Wednesday, hosting the Dal Tigers.
