(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Reds ‘Think Pink’ Weekend brought in plenty of green for the Canadian Cancer Society.

The Reds raised $7189 over three days. That total does not include the amount raised by the women’s hockey team in their on-line auction of a game-worn jersey. That auction ends later this week.

“Our community really got behind this event, which they usually do,” said Jeff Speedy, head coach of the Reds women’s basketball, the team that leads the ‘Think Pink’ efforts. “It was a very special weekend. The crowds were great.”

Funds were raised throughout the weekend during 50-50 draws at games, raffles, jersey auctions, and through donations sought by members of the women’s basketball and volleyball teams who cut their hair in support of women dealing with breast cancer.

“I enjoy seeing how involved our student-athletes are every ‘Shoot For The Cure’ weekend.,” said Speedy. “They really get behind the event and demonstrate that giving back and supporting a cause bigger than an AUS game is important to them.”

‘Think Pink’ Weekend 2019 included two women’s basketball games, two men’s basketball games, two women’s volleyball matches and two women’s hockey games. Fund-raising efforts were held at each event.

All the money raised will go to the Canadian Cancer Society, through U SPORTS ‘Shoot For The Cure.’

This was the 12th ‘Think Pink’ Weekend at UNB. In that time, almost 90-thousand dollars has been raised.
