(SYDNEY, NS) Alison Keough(Marion Bridge, NS) and Hannah Brown(North Sydney, NS) both had big games for the Cape Breton University Capers, but it wasn't enough, as the UNB Varsity Reds scored a 90-83 win, in overtime, in Sydney, on Friday night.
Mikaela Dodig(Bolton, ON) led the Varsity Reds with a team-high 21 points. She was named the Subway Player of the Game.
Keough hit a pair of free throws with less than 10 seconds to play to send the game into overtime, but Hannah Currie(Collingwood, ON) stepped up her game in the overtime period. Currie score six points in the extra frame and also grabbed some key rebounds to help the Varsity Reds improve their record to 6-4.
Brown finished with 28 points with 9 rebounds, while Keough recorded a double-double, scoring 30 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
Dodig, Emily MacLeod(Fredericton, NB), Nicole Esson(Fredericton, NB), and Currie all had at least 14 points, leading a balanced attack for the Varsity Reds.
The V-Reds and Capers meet again Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
