It was a tough night for the University of New Brunswick basketball teams tonight, with both the men's and women's teams losing to the visiting University of Acadia but everyone was a winner supporting UNB's efforts in Shoot for the Cure.

Although the result on the court was less than desired, the action was part of the UNB Varsity Reds 2013-14 Stewart McKelvey Think Pink campaign, a part of the national Shoot for the Cure drive, a campaign designed to raise awareness for those affected by breast cancer.

Donning pink uniforms to show their support, the women's basketball team gave a solid effort in the 73-66 loss. Leading scorers for the Varsity Reds were Rachel Cleary with 18 points and seven rebounds, and Awo Farah with 10 points and 16 rebounds.

The men came onto the court wearing pink warm ups over their usual white uniforms. The 96-83 final score does not offer a true scope of how close the game really was. The leading scorers for the Varsity Reds were Javon Masters with 36 points and 5 rebounds, and William McFee with 20 points and 2 rebounds.  

The night was highlighted as six individuals donated their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths during halftime of the men's game.  Varsity Reds Hannah Currie, Rachel Cleary, Leah Bowers, Chhase McFarlen, Meghan Carson and Baylee Stockford did their part and publicly cut or shaved their hair. Ponytails were snipped buns were broken, but the largest follicle sacrifice came from McFarlen from the men's volleyball team. Aided by two of his teammates the complete mane of hair was
removed and collected in order to donate to the cause.

Both basketball teams will have a chance to recoup their losses with rematches against Acadia, scheduled at 1:00pm for the women, and 3:00pm for the men. All action will take place at the Richard J. Currie Center, as the Shoot for the Cure weekend continues.

Up the hill in Pink in the Rink the V-Reds defeated the X-Men 3-2 in overtime.
