Women's basketball prepares for AUS season
October 18, 2012
For the Varsity Reds women’s basketball team, regular season is just a few weeks away, regular season starting the 9th of November against Acadia University. As we wait anxiously for the season to begin, preseason is well under way, with a record of two wins, against Brock with a score of 65-62 for UNB and against UBC with a score of 76-60 also for UNB, and four losses against UQAM 86-62 for UQAM, Alberta 71-57 for Alberta, Acadia 86-64 for Acadia, and in overtime to Saskatchewan 89-85 for Saskatchewan.
Coach Speedy says, “We play a lot of tough teams in the preseason, not caring about our record, to show us what we need to improve on and how we can develop as a team and be ready for the season in November”. Looking ahead, the Reds have the Don Grant Classic the 26th-28th in Moncton, with a deep bench, and players competing for spots, it’s sure to be an interesting tournament, with nine games in the tournament in just three days, teams from the AUS and other conferences.
The V-Reds are sure to show their tenacity and winning attitudes. Keep an eye out for the Varsity Reds women’s basketball team as regular season is only a few weeks away, and come out to as many home games as you can for some great ball.
