Varsity Reds raise over $9,500 for Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
The Varsity Reds are proud to announce another successful Think Pink Weekend at the Richard J. CURRIE CENTER. Over $9500 was raised in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation between the fifth annual Shoot for the Cure and Pink in the Rink effort.

“I am so impressed with how the student athletes from our teams really embrace this cause and work extremely hard to make it a success,” said Jeff Speedy, Shoot for the Cure chair and women’s basketball head coach.

“We are doing our small part to make a difference and hopefully we can do even more next year."

Yet, the fundraising doesn’t stop there. The remaining pink-themed items will be sold during the Mark Jeffrey Memorial men’s hockey game between the Varsity Reds and St. Thomas University on Wednesday, February 8 at 7 p.m. at the Aitken University Centre, and again on Saturday, February 11 at 7 p.m. against Moncton. Items will be sold as quantities last. A final tally will be released next week.

The Varsity Reds would like to give special thanks to Alicia Sterling, women’s basketball manager, for raising $1200 to have Speedy shave the CBCF logo into his head and then dye his hair pink. Athletic therapist Kristen Johnson and Red Shirt point guard Tilly Ettinger should also be commended for raising $3000 and donating over 20 inches of hair between them to make wigs. Speedy deserves many thanks as well for his tireless effort in organizing the events.

Finally, the Varsity Reds would like to thank all of the volunteers, players, parents and fan who supported the CBCF.
