Howse And REDS Run 2nd In London
(LONDON, ON) Jared Howse (Red Deer, AB) ran to a second-place finish in the men's eight-kilometre race at the Vigars and Salters Invitational, hosted by Western University, in London, Ontario on Saturday afternoon.
Howse's finish propelled UNB to a second place finish in the men's team standings, just one point behind the host Western Mustangs.
Howse finished in a time of 25:08.6, slightly more than four seconds back of winner Max Davies, from the University of Guelph.
The REDS' William Boyle (Winnipeg, MB) was fourth, 30 second off the winner's pace, and first-year RED Silas Conlin-Morse (Wolfville, NS) ran seventh.
"Jared, William, and Silas ran very well," said REDS' head coach Chris Belof. "We're pleased with their performances but will be looking for more in the coming weeks. Our rookies did a great job stepping up today and will grow from their experience here today."
"It's always a tough course with an impressive field," said Howse, of the London event. "I'm happy with second today, individually and as a team. Placing three of us in the top ten is a testament to our great training block with our new recruit class."
The next event on the Atlantic University Sport cross country schedule is October 5th, in Moncton.
The AUS Championships go October 26th, in St. John's, NL.
