(MONCTON, NB) The UNB REDS ran to the bronze medal in the men's team competition at the 2021 Atlantic University Sport Men's Cross Country Championship, on Saturday.

The REDS, who placed five runners in the top 20, were led by Jared Howse, who finished fifth overall.

Isaac Cull was 10th, Will Boyle as 13th, Mitchell Kean was 15th and Dawson Nancekievill was 17th.

Chance Blackstone ran 21st and Quinn Eberts was 26th.

"The men are young very ambitious. Today's result isn't what they wanted, and won't sit well with the group, but certainly we all knew there were four very good teams coming into the weekend," said REDS head coach Chris Belof. "We did not have much room for error today and unfortunately our inexperience played a factor."

In the team competition, won by Dalhousie, the REDS were just 12 points out of second place, finishing behind St FX and well ahead of fourth place Saint Mary's.

"Jared Howse and William Boyle were the top rookies in the field, which bodes well for our young team going forward," said Belof. "We will be looking for bigger things from this group in the coming indoor track season."
