REDS Bow Out In Five Set Thriller
(QUEBEC CITY, QC) In the deciding set of the deciding game of their RSEQ semi-final series, the UNB REDS men's volleyball team came up just short.
The REDS fell 3-2 to the Laval Rouge et Or Sunday, 20-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-21, and 13-15.
Laval takes the best of three series and advances to face Sherbrooke in the RSEQ final.
The REDS, nursing a short bench, kept it close throughout and appeared to be building momentum in the fifth set before a pivotal Laval service run.
Even then, the REDS fought to stay in it before surrendering the final two points.
Lucas Maffia led the REDS with 30 assists, 14 kills, and 10 digs. Eduardo Luchese had 14 kills and 10 digs. Jacob Harris contributed a dozen kills and Scott Mann registered 14 digs. Finn McMorran had 23 assists and put up six blocks while Travis Pruim and Shamus Cormier had nine and six blocks respectively.
Max Losier recorded a game-high 25 kills for the host Rouge et Or, while Charles St-Aubin had 50 assists. Patrick Minville had 10 blocks for Laval.
