REDS Bow Out Of RSEQ Playoffs
(QUEBEC CITY, QC) The UNB REDS men's volleyball season came to a close Saturday night with a three-sets-to-one loss to the Laval Rouge et Or, in the RSEQ semi-finals.
Laval won game one on Friday, a 3-2 victory.
The teams continued along the same lines Saturday, another close match.
The first set was a back-and-forth battle with the REDS winning 27-25.
Laval pushed back, landing four straight points to close the second set and win 26-24.
UNB gave a strong start in the third set, but Laval came back midway through, using a five-point run to go up 15-9, on route to a 25-14 win.
The REDS challenged again in the fourth set, but Laval won 25-22, taking the match 3-1.
"We fully expected to win this series, so the loss tonight is a rough one," said REDS' head coach Dan McMorran. "We started well and put ourselves in position to go up 2-0 in the match, but weren’t able to close it out and missed a big opportunity."
While the REDS season comes to an end, Laval moves on to the RSEQ final where they'll face the country's No. 1 ranked team, the Sherbrooke Vert et Or.
"I’m very proud of the progress this team has made this season," said Coach McMorran. "We’ve improved significantly and have gained valuable experience, two things that will serve us well for next year."
