(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS men’s volleyball team is adding 5’10” libero Noah Crummey to their recruiting class of 2023.

The 17-year-old Crummey, completing his Grade 12 year at Fredericton’s Leo Hayes High School, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and will join the REDS ahead of the 2023-2024 RSEQ season.

“Noah is an athlete who has played a variety of positions over the past few years, and this has made him a versatile player with a strong volleyball IQ,” said REDS’ head coach Dan McMorran. “As he continues to progress, I feel he can make a solid contribution to our group as a libero.”

As a member of the boys’ varsity team at Leo Hayes, Crummey helped the Lions capture the 2022 AAA provincial championship and earned the team’s most dedicated player award in 2021 and 2022.

He’s been a member of the Spartans Volleyball Club since 2016 and is currently captain of their U18 side. Crummey and the Spartans captured Volleyball New Brunswick U18 titles in 2021 and 2022. The team earned a Top 15 finish at the 2022 national club championship tournament.

“Growing up in Fredericton, I was always able to watch the REDS play and have always wanted to compete at that level,” said Crummey. “I know this is a successful program and I’m happy to grow and develop my skills on and off the court.”

Crummey’s short-term goals include further skill development. Longer-term, he wants to help the team thrive and bring more success to the program.

“I play with intensity and am always working hard,” he said. “I want the best for me and my teammates. I love the sport and can’t wait for the challenge of playing high calibre volleyball next season and beyond.”

“He’s an excellent student and a fantastic young man,” said Coach McMorran. “We’re excited to have him join our program.”

Crummey will study Forestry while attending UNB.
