Reds Add Libero Mann
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Reds men’s volleyball team is adding libero Scott Mann to its recruiting class of 2020.
Mann, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and will join the Reds ahead of the 2020-21 RSEQ season.
Finishing his Grade 12 year at Winnipeg’s St. Paul’s High School, Mann was part of Crusaders teams that medalled at the Manitoba high school championship tournament in 2017 (silver), 2018 (bronze), and 2019 (bronze).
“I was drawn to UNB because of the great academic program, small class size, and the new athletic facilities,” said Mann. “The Reds have given me a chance to pursue my academic goals while playing volleyball for a consistently competitive team in U SPORTS.”
Mann has also been a standout performer with 204 Volleyball Club teams and Team Manitoba.
At the club level, the 17-year-old helped 204’s team to victory at the 2019 ‘Best of the West’ tournament and the 2020 ‘Manitoba Premier’ tournament. In 2019, 204 was runner-up at the provincial championship tournament, where Mann was named an all-star, and 8th at the national championship.
With Team Manitoba, Mann helped the provincial team to the championship at the 2019 Canada Cup.
“My strengths as an athlete are my competitiveness and my strong work ethic,” said Mann. “I hope to use these attributes to make a positive contribution to the program, on and off the court.”
“Scott is a talented libero who is extremely quick and has a great work ethic,” said Reds head coach Dan McMorran. “He has the potential to be an excellent player at the U SPORTS level. On top of that, he’s a tremendous student and a great young man. We’re fortunate to have him join our program and look forward to him adding depth to our defensive unit.”
“One of my short-term goals is to take all opportunities to learn from the coaching staff and my teammates,” said Mann. “Long-term, I want to contribute to the program’s success and become an impact player for the team.”
Mann will study Science while attending UNB, and plans to pursue a career in medicine.
