In the opening set UNB capitalized on MUN errors and moved ahead to an early 4-1 lead. UNB middle Logan Keoughan made some huge kills, expanding the lead to 10-4. UNB continued their stellar play accumulating a 22-10 score. With a powerful kill, outside-hitter Marc White won the set for the V-Reds, 25-12.

The second set saw more of the same play from UNB. MUN continued with errors on serve allowing UNB to dictate the flow of play and to jump out quickly to a 10-3 lead. Strong serving from UNB's Julio Fernandez improved their lead to 17-7. Keoughan added to his game total 6 blocks to give the set to UNB 25-11.

The final set was all UNB. The visiting Sea-Hawkes could not maintain the level of play and conceded six consecutive points early, allowing UNB a 8-2 lead. Right side hitter Eivind Anderson squandered remaining hope with powerful swings pushing the lead to 18-8. Sam Burt of Memorial hit a monstrous spike, showing his team still had life at 23-12. With a final block by Keoughan the V-Reds took the set 25-12, and swept the match 3-0.

Coach Dan McMorran was impressed by the play of his team: "We went all out, we hit hard, and we got blocks when we needed them. We were able to use our bench and they proved themselves."

The Varsity Reds are back on the court tomorrow for their second game of the weekend against Memorial at 12:00 noon.
