In the first match of the men's volleyball Queen's invitational it was Manitoba taking on Montreal. The Bison's managed to hang out in a battle with Montreal for a 3-2 win. Set scores finished 26-24, 25-18, 25-27, 29-31, 15-11.
The Bison's had a great advantage in this one, taking the first two frames as they looked to be in control. Montreal stormed back forcing extra points in the next two sets and clinging on to force a fifth and final set. The Bison's figured their game out and took the set 15-11 for the win. Devren Dear finished with 20 kills for Manitoba while Luke Herr put up 55 assists. Montreal was led by Saad Elbekri with 18 kills. BOX SCORE
Varsity Reds beat Gaels men's volleyball team in straight sets
The Gaels dropped their opener at the Queen's Invitational Tournament three sets to none Friday night against the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds, 18-25, 19-25, and 27-29.
Philippe Goyer (Ottawa) led the Gaels offense with nine kills. Defensively, the Gaels leaders were Ivo Dramov (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) with a game-high eight digs and Darren Edwards (Waterdown, Ont.) with 3.5 blocks.
The Varsity Reds had Eivind Andersen and Marc White leading their offense, recording 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
The Gaels resume tournament play Saturday at 8pm against Manitoba (1-0), and the Varsity Reds play the Université de Montréal (0-1) at 3pm. BOXSCORE
