Manitoba earns comeback victory over host Queen's 3-2
Host Queen's suffered a heartbreaking loss dropping a 3-2 decision to the Manitoba Bisons in the evening match at the Queen's Invitational on Saturday.
Queen's Philippe Goyer (Ottawa) and Stephen Holmes (Ancaster, Ont.) were to the Gaels top players registering 19 points each. Goyer tallied his on 16 kills along with one service ace and two blocks. Holmes registered 15 kills, an ace and three blocks.
Jacob Glantz (St. Catharines, Ont.) had a team high nine digs for the Gaels while setter Matthew Bonshor (White Rock, B.C.) posted 40 assists in the loss.
The Queen's Invitational wraps up tomorrow Manitoba and New Brunswick battling for first place at 9:00am. Queen's and Montreal will play for third place with that game starting at 3:30pm.
New Brunswick tops Montreal 3-1
The New Brunswick Varsity Reds captured a 3-1 victory over the Montreal Carabins with set scores of 25-27, 25-11, 25-21 and 25-18 at the Queen's Invitational Tournament in Kingston on Saturday.
The Varsity Red move to a 2-0 record at the tournament while the Carabins record falls to 0-2 with play winding up tomorrow afternoon.
Julio Fernandez of Los Teques, Venezuela led the way for the Reds as he registered 19 points on 13 kills and an impressive five aces. Teammate Eivind Andersen of Norway posted 17.5 points in the win along with 11 digs.
Montreal's Alyson Francillon of Longueuil, Que. was the game's top point getter posting 20 points on 17 kills, once ace and 1.5 blocks. Samuel Coulombe of Laval, Que., posted a team high nine digs for Montreal.
In the final games of the event tomorrow New Brunswick will battle Manitoba tomorrow morning at 11:00am while Montreal will take on host Queen's at 3:30pm.
