Men's V-Reds Dominate at Home
November 3, 2012
The V-Reds men’s volleyball team took to the court tonight for the first of this weekend’s two home games against the MUN Sea Hawks, the first home games of this season.
The V-Reds set the tone early in the first set, with Matt Sweet and Samuel Alves towering tall for block after block keeping the Sea Hawks from scoring on their kills, and power shots. A lot of UNB’s points can be attributed to the power behind Julio Fernandez and Elvind Anderson’s efforts up front. Hit after hit, the first set was dominated by the V-Reds, who took the set 25-18.
The second set seemed almost a replay of the first, Coach McMorran attributed UNB’s great game to the fact that “We passed really well today and Mathieu Losier, who was setter today, did a great job in the position keeping up the tempo in the offence, however I still don’t feel we served as well as we’re able to, but we straightened it out in the third set and caught a few runs”. The V-Reds dominated offensively, adding more fuel to their fire, taking the second set 25-18.
Coming into the third set, UNB was making better serves and really showing that they wanted to end the game in the third set. A few ace serves from Mathieu Losier and Matt Sweet brought the V-Reds within reach of the win, after a few continuous point runs, the V-Reds went on to take the third match 25-12, thus winning the game in three sets.
The women’s volleyball team also faced MUN, with match scores of 25-20 MUN, 25-22 MUN, and the game deciding set, 25-21 MUN. Both men’s and women’s teams are back on the court Sunday November 4th to face MUN once again; the women’s game is at 11am followed by the men’s at 1pm.
