Tigers drop reigning AUS champions
The UNB men’s volleyball team dropped their first three sets against the Dalhousie Tigers this season, in their home-opener.

“I don’t know if this is quite our home court yet. I think the guys aren’t, either comfortable in here or not.  But I mean there’s no excuse for that,” said head coach Dan McMorran.

“We just didn’t come out with the aggressiveness that we needed to, with the intensity that we needed to.”

The Reds started a strong first set against the Dalhousie Tigers, where they lost 27-25, falling short by two points.

“I’d match this team up against that team; I’ll take our side any day as far as talent right now. We’re just not executing in any department.”

The second set wasn’t as close in points as the Varsity Reds would have liked it, where they saw a 25-23 loss against the Tigers.

Although on paper the numbers appear in the losses, the Reds gave Dal a run for their money, as they continued to setup play after play, but they couldn’t seem to get the right handle on it.

“We just didn’t manage certain times of the game well,” said McMorran.

“We had opportunities in each of the sets and we just made unforced errors at the wrong times. Just too many unforced errors.”

The third set of the match saw the Tigers claw their way to the nights victory as they won 25-20, the largest gap between the Tigers and the V-Reds on the scoreboard during the night.

“I’m going to challenge their fire. I’m going to challenge their integrity a little bit here. I mean we can’t, in my estimation; we can’t come out with that lack of intensity here at any time, where it’s our home court or whether it’s against a weaker opponent.”

The Varsity Reds will take on the Dalhousie Tigers again today, at 2:00 p.m. in the Currie Center.
