UNB Varsity Red, Jacob Kilpatrick, will try to cap off an already stellar year on the court, as he heads to Gatineau, QC, for the National Team Selection Camp, held at the National Team Training Center, May 8-12.
Jacob finished his fifth and final year of eligibility this past season in dramatic fashion, as he was named the AUS MVP, CIS 1st Team All-Canadian, Dale Iwanoczko National Award recipient (top all-round CIS men’s volleyball player), James Bayer Award (top all-round male athlete in AUS), CIS Academic All-Canadian, UNB Team MVP, Garnett Copeland Award (UNB’s top all-round male athlete), and the James Downey Shield for UNB’s Male Athlete-of-the-Year…impressive year to say the least.
He will now try to battle it out with the best men’s volleyball players in the country as he tries to earn a position with Team Canada’s National A and B/FISU programs this summer. Successful athletes will represent Canada at the 2011 World Universiade (FISU) Games in Shenzhen, China, to be held from August 12-23, 2011. The Senior A team is led by head coach Glenn Hoag and assistant coach Vincent Pichette, while the Senior B/FISU team will be led by head coach Larry McKay (University of Winnipeg) and assistant coaches Ben Josephson (Trinity Western University) and Steve Leknois (Royal Military College).
“I am very pleased and excited that Jacob is going to get this opportunity. He has been working very hard in preparation for this tryout, which will hopefully give him the best possible chance to represent our country this summer,” commented coach Dan McMorran.
