Howse Paces UNB At REDS Invitational
(SAINT JOHN, NB) The UNB REDS hosted their annual REDS Invitational Track & Field Meet at the Irving Oil Field House in Saint John, welcoming competitors from around Atlantic University Sport and recording a number of victories.
Shelby MacIsaac (Riverview, NB) ran to victory in the women’s 600-metres in a personal best time of 1:31.71 which auto-qualfied her for the U SPORTS Track & Field Championships. MacIsaac’s time is the second best in the event in UNB history and puts MacIsaac No. 5 in the U SPORTS rankings.
In the men’s mile, UNB’s Jared Howse (Red Deer, AB) beat Dal’s Aidan Goslett (Toronto, ON) by more than a second. Howse’s REDS teammate Silas Conlin-Mores (Wolfville, NS) was third while UNB’s Brodie Pennie (Manitowagning, ON) was fifth in the field of 39.
In the men’s 1000-metres, UNB’s Quinn Eberts (Lacombe, AB) raced to victory while teammate Sam Andrew (Saskatoon, SK) was third.
UNB’s Ava Goncalves (West St. Paul, MB) won the women’s 1000-metres and Allison Dewar (Ottawa, ON) set a personal best in winning the women’s 60-metre hurdles in a time of 9.77 seconds.
The REDS’ Oliver Arnfast (Truro, NS) won the men’s 60-metre hurdles.
Lexie Shannon (Fredericton, NB) won the women’s triple jump, leaping 33-centimetres further than Dalhousie’s Maja Husain (Calgary, AB). In the women’s long jump, Husain took first while Shannon was second. UNB’s Haley Angus (Amherst, NS) was third in both events.
Shannon is the No. 5 ranked triple jumper in U SPORTS.
UNB’S Naomi Corwin (Victoria, BC) won the women’s pole vault, earning the top ranking in the event in the AUS.
The REDS’ women’s 4-by-200-metre relay team just missed a new school record in their victory while Anna Somers (St. Stephen, NB) finished second in the women’s 300-metres.
Ashley Morrow (Pilot Mound, MB) was second in the women’s weight throw, while Christopher Grant (Truro, NS) and Tony Jeong (Fredericton, NB) were second and third respectively in the men’s weight throw.
The next event on the AUS calendar for the REDS is the AUS Championships, which UNB will host, at the Irving Oil Field House, February 21st and 22nd.
