(MONCTON, NB) UNB’s Braden Harrison opened the 2019 track and field season by winning the men’s 300 metres at Saturday’s Moncton Open.

Harrison beat a pair of St FX runners by more than seven-tenths of a second.

“Braden had a strong opening weekend and will be looking to be one of the top two athletes in the 300 metres in the AUS,” said Chris Belof, the head coach of the Reds track and field team.

Harrison wasn’t the only Red to find the top step of the podium.

Kevin Li won the men’s triple jump, beating Saint Mary’s Shedler Fervius by seven-hundreds of a metre, and the Reds Jarod Manuel won the men’s weight throw.

"Our men's team is once again looking to challenge to be top two in the conference,” said Belof. “We have a strong group of young men who have done the work to improve on their performances from last year. Our men's throws group has consistently been improving all season, and we will be leaning heavily on them to contribute in a big way at the conference meet.”

UNB’s Ryan Olson finished second in the men’s high jump, while Brandon Cleghorn placed third in the men’s long jump.
