Men Medal At AUS Meet
(MONCTON, NB) A pair of gold medals, and conference all-stars for Braden Harrison and Daniel Brown highlighted the Subway AUS Track and Field Championships, in Moncton.
Harrison won a very close 300-metres, in 36.12s over Dalhousie's Josh Lunda(36.14s) and Corey Conforzi(36.39s).
In the 600-metres, Brown took the lead from the start and never relinquished it, running 1:22.15s. Brown's time ranks him 16th in the country.
Two silver medal performances and 2nd team AUS all-stars would come from Brandon Cleghorn, in the long jump(6.39m) and Kyle Lefort in the high jump(1.88m).
Cleghorn also finished third in the high jump(1.85m), one of four individual bronze medal performances.
Joshua Shanks took bronze in the 3000-metres, while Liam Turgeon was third in the shot put and weight throw.
UNB captured two bronze medals in relay events.
Harrison, Brown, Evan Pugh and Robert Tree ran the 4x200-metres, while Brown, Harrison, Pugh, and Lefort ran the 4x400-metres.
The men's team placed third overall in the conference, with 72 points. Dalhousie won the team championship, with 151 points.
Additionally 4 UNB records were set:
Liam Turgeon, in the shot put - 14.35m(previous was 13.76m).
Turgeon, in the weigh throw - 15.16m(previous was 14.76m).
Troy Wilson, in the heptathlon - 4014pts(previous 3808pts).
Wilson, in the pole vault - 3.30m(previous 2.90m).
"This was a great year for our men's team," said Varsity Reds head coach Jason Reindl. "I'm extremely happy with how they all performed. The conference championships are two very short days of competition and anything is possible. We showed that our team is continuing to improve, and we will now start looking towards the 2016-2017 season.
