Varsity Reds Rule At NS Meet
(HALIFAX, NS) Some of the UNB Varsity Reds men's track and field team travelled to Halifax on the weekend, to compete in the Saint Mary's Open.
UNB's Braden Harrison ran the meet's best 300m(36.40s), while teammate Daniel Brown finished third(36.81s). Brown also finished second in the 600m, in a season's best time of 1:22.58s.
In the 60m, Mike Whitcomb placed 3rd(7.21s).
In the 1000m, Clayton Holteen was 5th(2:44.74s) and Jonathan Bunn was 6th(2:45.57s).
Brandon Cleghorn tied for 2nd in the high jump(1.85m), narrowly missing 1.90m . He was also 2nd in the long jump(6.10m).
The Varsity Reds Kyle Ancheta won the triple jump, recording 12.01m.
"Our men's team came to Halifax looking for a few key performances prior the the AUS championships and I think we achieved the majority of our goals," said Varsity Reds head coach Jason Reindl. "Cleghorn is finding his hops at just the right time, Harrison is showing that he can run with the best in the conference, and Brown ran his second fastest 600m time ever."
"We have two weeks to go, and need to get into final preparation mode," said Reindl.
