Track & Field Season Underway
(OROMOCTO, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds began the 2015-2016 AUS Track and Field this past weekend, at the ANB Last Chance at the CFB Gagetown track.
22 Varsity Reds men took part in the meet.
The highlight, for the men's team, saw first year athlete Liam Turgeon break both school throws records. In the shot put, Turegon threw 13.27m, blasting past the previous record of 12.60m. In the weight throw, he tossed 14.69m, surpassing the old record of 14.63m.
Other highlights included:
Fourth year sprinter Mike Whitcomb finished second in the 60m, with a time of 7.16s That equalled his personal best, set last year at the AUS Championships.
Fourth year athlete Daniel Brown won the senior men's 300m(37.32s) and the 600m(1:27.02s).
Third year runner Jonathan Bunn finished first in the senior men's 1000m(2:44.80s) and 1500m(4:28.97s).
Third year athlete Matthew Kinch finished first in the senior men's high jump with a best of 1.82m.

"While it is hard to predict results for and from the first meet of the season I think that the men's team got the job done today," said Varsity Reds head coach Jason Reindl. "We had school records, personal bests and, more importantly, improvements on last year's first meet results." Reindl says the talent in the AUS continues to improve. "If our results are any indication, then the AUS Championships are going to be very exciting and thankfully we still have lots of time to prepare."
