Kingston Leads REDS On Final Day Of Kemp-Fry Meet
(HALIFAX, NS) Dalhousie's Kemp-Fry Invitational, the third meet of the Atlantic University Sport swimming season, concluded Sunday with some solid performances for the UNB REDS.
As he did on Friday and Saturday, UNB's Blake Kingston led the REDS on Sunday, swimming to second place finishes in the men's 50-metre and 200-metre breaststroke races.
In the 50-metre race, Kingston touched the wall just 2/100ths of a second back of the race winner, Dal's Quinn Nolan, and a mere tenth of a second ahead of third place.
Kingston also helped UNB take third in the men's 4-by-100-metre medley relay, finishing behind teams from Dal and Memorial, and just ahead of a strong Acadia team.
UNB's Maxime Kenny won the B Final in the men's 100-metre freestyle and Eric Jean won the men's B Final in the 50-metre butterfly.
"The men's team is showing great signs of strength and improvement," said REDS' head coach Marta Belsh. "Max swam lifetime bests this weekend to earn bronze medals in two events."
In the women's 50-metre butterfly, UNB's Emma Sinclair was fourth, just 6/10ths back of the winner and 15/100ths of a second out of third place.
The REDS' Jessie Collett won the B Final in the 50-metre fly.
In the team standings, UNB finished fourth of five men's teams and was fifth overall on the women's side.
"Every woman scored points in this event," said Coach Belsh. "This was a great opportunity to see where we are and look at the technical adjustments we have to make over the course of our next training block, before the conference championships."
The REDS will be back at Dalhousie for the final regular season meet of the AUS season, January 25th and 26th.
UNB will host the AUS Championships, February 21-23, at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre, in Saint John.
