REDS 4th After Day Two At Kemp-Fry
(HALIFAX, NS) Blake Kingston led the UNB contingent on Day 2 of the Kemp-Fry Invitational, in Halifax. The event is the third meet of the 2024-2025 Atlantic University Sport swimming season.
Kingston swam to victory in the men's 100-metre breaststroke. His time of 1:03.01 was 9/10ths of a second better than Dal's Jake Gysel. UNB's Ethan Nestoruk finished fifth.
Kingston also swam to a third-place finish in the men's 50-metre freestyle, finishing 6/10ths of a second back of the winner.
Maxime Kenny also made two podium appearances on Saturday.
He finished third in the men's 100-metre butterfly, behind a pair of Memorial swimmers, and he was third in the 50-metre backstroke, behind two Dal swimmers.
In the women's 50-metre backstroke, UNB's Leah Smal was third, touching the wall a mere 57/100ths of a second after winner Sophie Rooney, from Acadia.
In the women's 50-metre freestyle, the top seven finishers touched the wall within 44/100ths of a second. UNB's Élodie Martin was seventh in that seven-way photo finish. UNB's Jessie Collett won the B Final in the women's 50-metre free.
Following two of three days of competition, Acadia leads the women's standings while Dalhousie sits atops the men's standings. UNB is fourth on the men's side and fifth in the women's competition.
The third and final day of action hits the water Sunday. Prelims go at 10:00am with finals at 4:30pm.
