Kingston's Record Race Leads REDS At AUS Championships
(HALIFAX, NS) The opening day of the 2023-24 Atlantic University Sport Swimming Championships saw a new AUS record holder crowned and very few repeat medal winners. When the dust settled, it was Dalhousie teams holding first place in both the men's and women's teams standings.
The evening session opened with a fast women's 200m freestyle. Dal's Reagan Crowell touched in first. UNB's Jessie Collett finished second to claim the silver medal.
UNB's Blake Kingston set a new AUS record in the men's 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:01.75. Gordon Shortt (Acadia) and Jake Gysel (Dalhousie) finished in second and third respectively.
In the women's 100m butterfly, Acadia's Sara Bennett touched the wall first while UNB's Emma Sinclair was fourth.
In the men's 50-metre backstroke, won by Dal's Liam Ferguson, UNB's Maxime Kenny was fourth, missing third by 1/100th of a second.
Dal swimmers won the women's 4-by-100-metre freestyle relay while the UNB team of Èlodie Martin, Sophie Casey, Sinclair and Collett took the bronze medal.

Day two, Saturday, gets under way with preliminaries at 10:00am followed by finals at 6:00pm.
