REDS Draw In Moncton
(MONCTON, NB) The UNB REDS and Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus played to a 1-1 draw in Atlantic University Sport men’s soccer action, Wednesday night in Moncton.
In a game dominated offensively by the REDS, the teams traded second half goals about seven minutes apart, with Moncton scoring on their only shot on goal of the game.
“This was a huge game for both teams,” said REDS’ head coach Barry Morrison. “The draw keeps playoff hopes alive for both of us heading into our last game against STFX.”
In the 76th minute, with the REDS pressing, the ball was sent across the 18-yard box to the foot of UNB striker Luke Rosettani (Ottawa, ON). He had little trouble slipping it past Aigles Bleus’ keeper Soan Janssen (Ploemeur, FRA.).
In the 83rd minute, with Moncton desperate to counter, Pascal Saulier (North Tetagouche, NB) found a ball in the box and drove it high over Mahmoud Moustafa (Stratford, PE) in the UNB net.
In the final seven minutes and added time, the REDS had numerous opportunities in the Moncton zone but could not find a go-ahead goal.
UNB outshot Moncton 7-1.
“We played well tonight,” said Coach Morrison. “We achieved a lot of our goals, but didn’t get the three points. We’re disappointed with the result and will re-focus and be ready to take on X on Saturday.”
With the draw, both teams are now 4-4-3 (W-L-T) and both have just one regular season game remaining.
Moncton will host the STFX X-Men on Friday. Game time is 7:15pm.
The X-Men then travel to Fredericton for a Saturday tilt with the REDS. That game is scheduled for a 7:15pm start as well.
