(WOLFVILLE, NS) The Acadia Axemen scored twice in extra time as they rallied to tie the UNB REDS 4-4 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action, Friday night in Wolfville.
"It was difficult tonight, to score four goals and only come away with a point," said REDS' head coach Barry Morrison. "We were clinical around their goal, but while on the other side of the ball we gave up unnecessary goals on set pieces and it cost us."
UNB's Luke Rosettani (Ottawa, ON) had a standout performance, scoring twice and assisting on another goal, earning him Player of the Game honours.
UNB took an early lead with goals from Rosettani, in the 11th minute, and Stefano D'Ambrogio (Toronto, ON) in the 16th.
Acadia responded with a goal by Oscar Marshall (Lake Loon, NS) in the 28th minute.
Rosettani made it a 3-1 game with his second, in the 34th minute and Jackson Purbs (Welland, ON) added another in the final minute of the first half before Marshall's second, in added time.
UNB led 4-2 at the half.
Max Rogers (Weston, NS) and Michael O'Flynn (North Vancouver, BC) scored in the second half to level the score.
The physical nature of the match was evident, with several yellow cards handed out.
UNB controlled much of the match, registering 22 shots compared to Acadia's 15.
The draw leaves UNB with a 2-4-2 (W-L-T) record, while Acadia sits at 1-4-3.
Acadia heads to Charlottetown on Sunday to face the UPEI Panthers, while UNB heads to Halifax to battle the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday night. Game time is scheduled for 7:45pm.
"We'll re-focus and get some rest and get ready to play a rested Dal team tomorrow," said Coach Morrison.
