(FREDERICTON, NB) The Moncton Aigles Bleues' only shot attempt of the first half found the back of the net as the visitors defeated the UNB REDS 1-0 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at UNB's BMO Centre.
Strong defensive and physical play dominated the early moments of the first half.
Although the start of the match saw limited action, there was no doubt that it was to be a fiercely contested battle.
The lone goal of the game came from Soumaila Mohamed Dagnoko (Bamako, Mali), giving the
visiting team the lead in the 27th minute.
Tenisons remained high and the REDS notably increased their offensive pressure in the second
half.
In the final moments of play, Luke Rosettani (Ottawa, ON) had a pair of strong scoring attempts,
but both were unsuccessful.
After a hard-fought battle at both ends, the Aigles Bleues secured the victory over the REDS.
"We've hit the first half without the results that we've been looking for," said REDS' head coach Barry Morrison. "I think the back half of the season is going to be really important for us to find a belief in the capabilities of this team."
The Aigles Bleues return to action Saturday when they host Cape Breton. Kick-off is scheduled
for 3:15pm.
UNB returns to action Friday night when they visit Wolfville to take on Acadia. Game time is
7:15pm.
