REDS Push Back, Beat Mounties
(FREDERICTON, NB) Luke Rosettani (Ottawa, ON) scored two goals to lead the UNB REDS to their first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, beating the Mount Allison Mounties on home turf.
The REDS defeated the visiting Mounties 3-1.
"It feels really good to get our first three points of the season," said Rosettani, who was named Tim Horton's Player of the Game. "We've just got to keep this momentum going into next week. It's a big weekend at Memorial."
Coming off his 2023 All-Canadian season, Rosettani continues to lead the REDS, scoring three out of four REDS goals so far this season.
The game began with strong pressure and constant back and forth from both teams.
In the 21st minute, Jackson Bennett (Falmouth, NS) earned the Mounties single goal of the game.
Just 10 minutes later, Rosettani tied the game with a goal on a free kick through the wall, during the 31stminute.
Early into the second half, the REDS tested the Mounties defense with strong pressure.
Stefano D'Ambrogio (Toronto, ON) gave the home team the lead, scoring in the 65th minute.
Finally, in the 78th minute, Rosettani scored the game's final goal, securing the 3-1 victory for the REDS.
"We believe in ourselves that we can push and score a bunch of goals," said Rosettani. "When that first goal went in, we just got back together and re-grouped and we knew we could go again."
The Mounties, now 1-1-0 (W-L-T), return to action on Thursday when they visit Moncton. Game time is 7:15pm.
The REDS, now 1-1-0, will be on the road next weekend, visiting St. John's, NL. They face the SeaHawks Friday, at 6:45pm Atlantic, in the weekend series opener.
