X-Men Hold Off REDS

(FREDERICTON, NB) The STFX X-Men scored two first half goals on route a 2-1 win over the UNB REDS in pre-season Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

Logan Rieck and Charlie Waters scored in the 3rd and 30th minutes respectively to stake the visitors to a 2-0 lead after 45 minutes.

That score looked like it might hold until REDS' striker Luke Rosettani hammered a ball from about 20 yards out that eluded X-Men keeper Cam Greenlaw in the 86th minute.

UNB couldn't find another goal and the exhibition contest ended with X ahead.

The REDS will wrap up their exhibition season on Tuesday when they visit the St. Thomas University Tommies of the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association.

The REDS open their AUS regular season on Friday, August 30th, when they host the Cape Breton Capers. Game time is scheduled for 7:15pm.
