(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds broke into the win column on Sunday, scoring a 1-0 win over the visiting UPEI Panthers.

It was the first win for UNB in five starts this season.

Freshman fullback Joe Hamilton(Morecambe, UK) scored the only goal of the game, in the 10th minute, off a corner kick from Kalen Park(Calgary, AB).

"The corner came in, it was right on the keeper. He palmed it and, luckily, I was just quickest to react and I was able to put it in the net," said Hamilton.

With the win, UNB is now 1-2-2 on the season.

The Varsity Reds are still well back of Atlantic University Sport leading St FX, but Hamilton feels the win comes at the right time.

"It feels great, and especially to get the clean sheet as well… it was needed, as well as the three points. It's great, and I think we can build from this now."

The Panthers are now 3-3, four points up on the Varsity Reds, in sixth place in the 10 team league.

"It was a pretty close game, I think the chances were even," said Panthers' captain Jeff Moore(Charlottetown, PE). "They just got the lucky bounce there, on the first goal. We pressured in the second half. They defended well. Their goalie made some really key saves in important moments."

The Panthers will face Saint Mary's, in Halifax, on Friday.

The Varsity Reds visit the Memorial Sea Hawks for games Saturday and Sunday.
