(FREDERICTON, NB) A goal in the 82nd minute of play lifted the St FX X-Men to a 1-0 victory over the UNB Varsity Reds on Sunday, at UNB's BMO Centre.

Blake Fenton(Halifax, NS) beat VReds keeper Evan Barker(Winnipeg, MB) low to the right side for the game's only goal.

"He caught some of it, off the tips of his gloves, then he turned to try to get to it, but it went in, just like that," said Fenton.

For his efforts, Fenton was named the Subway Player of the Game.

"This is what we wanted, the win," he said. "We want to go undefeated and nothing feels better than this right now."

X is now 4-0 and in first place in the Atlantic University Sport standings.

The loss left the Varsity Reds with a record of 0-2-2.

"Disappointment, I think, is the word that comes to mind," said Varsity Reds fullback Kalen Park(Calgary, AB), of the loss. "We've put in decent performances, but we haven't had that final ball, that goal."

"We had our chances, they had theirs, and it just fell that way," said Park.

The X-Men put their unbeaten streak on the line Friday, when they visit Dal.

The Varsity Reds continue the search for their first win of the season on Sunday, when they host UPEI. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:15pm.

"We have another big game next weekend," said Park. "We want to get rolling and build up momentum and move from there."

Prior to Sunday's game, the Varsity Reds honoured long-time coach Gary Brown with a moment of applause.

Brown, who coached UNB from 1971 until 1998, passed away September 6th. He was 74.
