UNB and Dal play to draw

(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds and the Dalhousie Tigers battled to a 0-0 draw in men's soccer exhibition action, on Tuesday afternoon, at BMO Centre.

Both teams struggled to create meaningful chances in the first half of play, in fact the VReds were unable to muster a shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.

The Tigers looked like the more threatening side, however none of their shots resulted in difficult saves having to be made.

Frustrations began to boil over in the heat of the afternoon, as the Tigers and Reds got a little chippy, with the Tigers complaining to the referee to call more fouls.

The second half saw more of the same stagnant play, neither team able to break the deadlock.

The Tigers had a few more shots on target, but again none of them were threatening.

The Varsity Reds had their first shot on goal in the 68th minute, but it didn't amount to anything.

The Tigers had the best scoring chance of the game, in the 73rd minute, a free kick on the edge of the box. The ball ricocheted off the crossbar before being cleared by the UNB defenders.

Overall, the game was back and forth with both sides proving to be evenly matched in the midfield as that's where the majority of the play was found.

Training camp continues for the Varsity Reds, who open the Atlantic University Sport season on September 10th, at Cape Breton University.
