Congratulations - V-Reds AUS Champions
The top ranked UNB Varsity Reds take home the AUS Championship for the first time since 2006 after beating the Huskies 3-0, controlling the game from start to finish.
It was fifth year senior Yousuf Mohammad who scored the game winning goal for the Varsity Reds at 18:39 on a pass from Jason Rouse. It was Mohamed's lone goal on the board at the half despite several quality chances by the fifth year striker.
The V-Reds came sprinting out of the half-time break to add another goal to the score board - with less than two minutes on the pitch UNB's Diego Padilha took a corner kick which found Yassin Shehab El Din to bring the score to 2-0.
The match was mostly controlled by UNB with the V-Reds big back line continually shutting down the Huskie offense while feeding their forwards to pressure the Huskie goaltender throughout the second half.
It was inevitable that Mohammad would score again for UNB as over and over again he pressured Miller at the net. His second goal came on a strike at the 77:57 mark.
V-Reds keeper Brandon Eagle put in a solid performance and posted his second shutout of the AUS championship weekend.
UNB host of the CIS 2013 Men's Soccer Championship November 7-10 and will now enter the tournament as AUS Champions.
