Robbie Park scores game winning goal against Capers

The Capers took a 1-0 loss to the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Varsity Reds men's soccer team, today.

The lone goal was scored by rookie Robbie Park after a cross from Kenneth Van Aarle in front of the Capers goalie, and a quick kick into the back of the net, giving UNB their first victory of the weekend.

Park is in his first year with the Varsity Reds, but has contributed much of his experience to the team, already. Starting four games this season, he already has two goals under his belt.

"Grateful that we won today," said Park.

"I think the last time we played them it didn't reflect how good we were."

Park is only in his first year with the Varsity Reds, but has been playing the sport since he could walk.

The first soccer game the Scotland native watched was the Glasgow Celtic Scottish Premier League with his father. He fell in love with the game, and the latest place the game brought Park was to UNB.

"The fact that I could actually play good soccer, and get a degree as well, it had the right stature for me," he said.

But it wasn't just the soccer that kept him here.

"The fact that I'd been so welcomed here," said Park.

"I've met a lot of new people I like here … [and] I've got confidence in my teammates."

Park and the other Varsity Reds men's soccer team take on the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers on Sunday October 19.
