Men's Soccer Season Review
The UNB Varsity Reds qualified for the AUS play-downs for the 15th straight season. This more than doubles the next closest team’s streak. Ultimately the 2010 season ended too early when the Varsity Reds were eliminated 2-1 by Cape Breton University in the quarter-finals.
The 2010 AUS season proved to be a very competitive one. The UNB Varsity Reds were one of many teams that found parity in this year’s league. The UNB squad may have been better than their record as, the Varsity Reds were in each game with a chance of winning. It was the Varsity Reds’ strong team defence that kept them in each game, and ultimately a lack of offence that was their downfall.
Centre back, Rod Ramsden was recognized for his strong season by being named an AUS All-Star. New players that had an impact for this year’s Varsity Reds included Aaron MacMurray (keeper), Yassin Chehab El Din (Centre Back), and Ryan Lauzon (Centre Midfield).
Graduating from this year’s team will be Brad Cowperthwaite (wing back), Galen Smith (striker), and James Green (wing back).
The team is still quite young and is excited about working hard in order to prepare for a better 2011 season.
