UNB men's soccer team tied for 3rd
The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds beat the Mount Allison Mounties 2-0 yesterday in Sackville to move into a tie for third in the AUS men's soccer conference.
Both UNB and the Dalhousie Tigers have 4-3-2 records for 14 points. St. FX is 9-0-0 for 27 points, seven up on 6-2-2 Saint Mary's.
Yesterday, Rory Keys broke a scoreless tie in the 50th minute and Shea Nordheim beat Travis Sandberg for the insurance goal in the 79th minute. Aaron McMurray had to make only three saves for the shutout.
Saturday in Sydney, the V-Reds battled the defending conference champion Cape Breton Capers to a 1-1 draw. Fourth-year midfielder Silvano Rajkovic scored for CBU while Yassim Chehab El Din replied for the V-Reds.
The UNB women also played Cape Breton to a 1-1 draw. Alyssa Kavanaugh scored for the Capers while Alex Black answered for the V-Reds.
UNB lost 4-1 to Mount Allison yesterday. Kat Fraser buried a penalty kick for Mount A in the 16th minute. Down 2-1, Heather Ambery scored off a corner kick to get UNB on the board, but Megan Spicer clicked in the 85th and 90th minutes to help Mount A (2-3-3) move a point ahead of ninth-place UNB (2-5-2).
