V-Reds Finish Third in AUS Men's Soccer
University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds finished up their regular season schedule with a pair of victories on the road in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer conference play.
V-Reds defeated University de Moncton Aigles Bleus 4-3 yesterday and Acadia Axemen 2-0 on Friday to finish third overall with 18 points on a 7-2-4 won-loss-tie slate.
Winning the regular season title was Cape Breton with a 9-1-3 mark followed by Dalhousie at 8-2-3. UPEI tied with UNB each with 18 points, but UNB gets third because of a better head to head record.
UPEI settles for fourth at 8-5-0 followed by St. Francis at 5-4-4 and UdeM at 5-6-2 rounding out the six playoff teams. UNB will play UdeM in quarter final action Friday at the AUS tournament being hosted by Dalhousie in Halifax.
In women's action, UNB finished the regular conference in last place with a 2-10-1 mark. V-Reds finished off the season by losing 3-2 to Universite de Moncton yesterday in Moncton. On Friday, UNB and Acadia played to a 2-2 deadlock in Wolfville.
Dalhousie Tigers claimed top spot with a 10-0-3 mark followed by UPEI at 9-3-1, Cape Breton at 7-2-4, St. FX at 8-4-1, Moncton at 5-5-3 and Saint Mary's at 4-7-2 rounding out the playoff spots.
