In his time behind the REDS' bench, UNB has won five national championships (2024, 2023, 2019, 2017, 2016), ten consecutive Atlantic University Sports regular season titles, and eight AUS championships.

His first season as head coach saw Hennigar guide the REDS to a 28-1-1-0 record, UNB's 17th consecutive AUS regular season title and the REDS' 7th straight AUS championship.

A former UNB student-athlete, Hennigar came to Fredericton after four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Windsor Spitfires where he was an all star in his final season.

He spent four seasons as a RED. During that time he was named the team MVP in all four years and twice took home the prestigious James Downey Shield as UNB’s top overall male athlete.

In 2007, Hennigar helped lead UNB to its first national title in ten years. He was also a key part of Canada’s gold-winning team at the FISU World Winter University Championships. The following year(2008), his game reached new heights. He had his best season with UNB and was awarded the BLG Award for top male student-athlete in Canada.

Following the 2008 season, Hennigar signed a two-year contract with the NHL's New York Islanders. He was traded the following summer, after his first pro season, to the Carolina Hurricanes where he saw time in both the AHL and ECHL. Hennigar then signed with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL.

After three seasons of professional hockey in North America, Hennigar left for Europe where he helped lead Cortina HC to their first Coppa Italia trophy. The following year Hennigar signed in Germany's DEL 2 league with the SERC Wild Wings, a team he helped guide to the league finals.

Hennigar finished his playing career in the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League with the championship winning team. He was named league MVP.

He lives in Fredericton with his wife Christy, their daughter Eva and their son Leo.
